A senior role within a complex, multi-entity group operating across multiple international jurisdictions. The Senior Management Accountant will play a key role in supporting the Finance Director by overseeing core accounting activities, ensuring regulatory compliance, providing technical accounting expertise, and driving continuous improvement across group finance processes.
The role requires a hands-on, technically strong accountant who is comfortable working in a fast-paced, evolving environment and contributing beyond core reporting requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Maintain selected general ledger accounts and complete monthly reconciliations of balance sheet and income statement accounts.
Manage intercompany accounting processes, including reconciliations across group entities and jurisdictions.
Prepare and review complex accounting calculations, journals, and technical accounting entries as required.
Support the preparation and submission of quarterly VAT returns (Malta and Portugal), ensuring compliance with applicable tax and regulatory requirements across multiple jurisdictions.
Maintain the fixed asset register, including depreciation calculations and postings.
Prepare and review monthly accruals and prepayments.
Coordinate internal and external audits for group entities, resolving audit queries and supporting the implementation of any recommended improvements.
Identify opportunities to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and control across the group’s accounting processes and systems.
Resolve complex accounting matters (e.g. lease accounting), taking into account the structure and requirements of a multi-entity, multinational group.
Contribute to or lead ad-hoc projects as directed by the Finance Director.
Lead by example, promoting a culture of continuous improvement and best practice within the finance function.
Provide guidance, mentoring, and support to junior members of the finance team as required.
Candidate Profile
Proven experience in a senior management accounting or similar role within a complex, multi-entity organisation.
Strong working knowledge of group accounting and experience managing multiple legal entities across different jurisdictions.
Solid background in management accounting, including exposure to technically complex accounting areas and group structures.
Experience ensuring compliance with accounting and tax regulations across multiple jurisdictions (including the UK and international territories).
Strong ERP systems experience (e.g. Business Central, SAP, Sage, Oracle) with advanced Excel capability.
Demonstrated ability to review, strengthen, and improve internal financial controls and processes.
Highly analytical, detail-oriented, and able to resolve complex accounting issues pragmatically.
Strong communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with both finance and non-finance stakeholders.
Ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines in a demanding environment.
Experience supporting, mentoring, or reviewing the work of junior finance team members.
Qualifications
ACA, ACCA, CIMA, or equivalent professional qualification preferred.
